The PTC960SL (slim line) is a mobile computer manufactured by Symbol Technologies, and formerly, the Telxon corporation. The original manufacture date was around 1996. The device was created with a 4 line display as well as a 16 line display which was much more popular. An integrated Symbol SE1200 laser scanner was standard, with long range laser options availble.

Earlier models included the TCAL operating system (Telxon Common Application Language) which resided mostly on the Telxon PTC-960, however, MS-DOS, was the primary O/S for the devices. Symbol Technologies, the current manufacturer of this unit Symbol PTC960SL does not support TCAL. Both batch (non-wireless) and wireless versions of the device were available and Telxon was an industry leader at the time of introduction, however Symbol Technologies eventually bought the declining Telxon corporation, and with it, discontinued many devices.
Symbol has continued to manufacture the PTC-960SL due to its popularity, and existing customer base. Symbol has renamed the product the Symbol PTC960SL, and has continued to offer wireless options including unlicensed 900mhz and 2.4 ghz as well as 802.11b through Cisco/Aironet cards. Software applications are embedded in a flash rom on the device and include Terminal Emulation (VT2220/Ansi/5250) as well as customer driven applications for warehouse, logistics, retail systems, and inventory.
The Symbol PTC960SL model did not meet with the same success as earlier Telxon PTC-960 versions primarily because of competition from Symbol Technologies, which developed highly competitive devices.
Models: Telxon PTC-960SL, Phase I, II, III and most recent manufacture from Symbol Technologies, the Symbol PTC960SL. Memory options are from 128KB to 4096KB. Wireless 900mhz, 2.4ghz Direct Sequence (DS), 2.4ghz Frequency Hopping (FH), and 2.4ghz 802.11b.
